a Marketing and HCI lesson

The squib in the Daily Bulletin about the Digital Photography site drew a lot of interest from parents and they were stakeholders that I had completely forgotten would be reading the Daily Bulletin. Kathleen gave me a very good precís of who exactly I was reaching and what they needed when we sat down and got the link thing straightened out.

They probably read it more than the students who tend to check what’s for lunch and ignore the rest.

I could see from the site statistics that many were just looking at the home page – the thumbnails – and weren’t clicking through to the posts.  I spoke to the teacher this afternoon as we attempted once more to solve the problem of a large format printer which won’t work properly with the macs in the new lab, nor, apparently with Windows 7 which we have on the Bootcamp partition so that she’s having to print from the XP lab across the street.. but I digress.

She didn’t understand at first either, so I added click the thumbnail for the full image to the tagline which spoils the look somewhat but what can you do. I added a ClustrMap to the widget area at the bottom. I actually set that up the other day and thought I’d add it once it had a few exotic dots on it but learned that it wouldn’t collect data unless embedded in the page. Too bad as I missed the first day of parental visiting.
