the digital photography site

One of the problems I had with the digital photography site, aside from the fact that it is hard to get any photos out of the class, has been what might seem like a minor detail – how to attribute the photos.

First I used the first name but one of the students is a member of the administration and a coach. It is customary at KUA to address adults as Mr., Ms. or Mrs. never by their first name. I now credit thus > first initial, last name which satisfies my requirement that I do not use first and last name for someone under 18 and that I  do not differentiate by crediting a student’s work by first name and the administrators work by Ms. Soandso . That seemed unequal.

Then I had to find a suitable theme. After some experimentation I settled on AutoFocus+ 1.2 by Allen Cole.

Although this theme is a little tricky to work with – you must upload by using the upload media function, rather than the upload image function in order for the post to appear correctly – it allows copyright notice per image. That is perfect because every image is by a different person.

I’ve been given more photos by the class – that is full file size images have been moved to a folder inside their class folder and I have batch changed the resolutions to 100, saved for web so that the file sizes are manageable and uploaded them.

There is so far to go! All these students should know about dpi, resolution, and uploading to the web. Alas, they don’t. I know Ms. Haskell-Webb does spend some time on resolution but I believe it is all oriented to print. Sigh….

But the new self-portraits are very good. I’m putting a little squib in the Daily Bulletin tommorow to get some traffic to it. I’ve also set up a clustrmap and once that has some data in it I’ll put that in a text widget.
