Usability testing

As soon as my email went out I had more student volunteers than you could shake a stick at. I wish I could do more of a sample but I didn’t think I’d get enough if I didn’t offer some sort of incentive.

I still have two more to test, they could not come in yesterday (five showed up moments after answering the email) or today. I won’t draw too many conclusions here as the documentation will be presented as one of my deliverables in a proper paper but I am very pleased with the amount I was able to learn from this small sample and very simple test.

I do wonder that more sites don’t seem to do this. I’m not sure that Whipple Hill (the company that designs the system our school site runs on) has ever done any with the students, faculty or staff that navigate their sites. They roll out features and if enough people complain about problems they redesign it, or so it seems to me.
