PocketMod
Just because it’s digital, doesn’t make it better
There are an awful lot of people like me, I’m not unique, and I find it a lot easier to scribble a note on a card or piece of paper than to find my purse, remove my PDA and enter some random thought or list item using the tiny keyboard. Why I’d have to find my glasses as well! Probably take me several minutes to do something like write: “remember to get stamps”.
At my house, we’ve been using index cards for this purpose – we like the system. I would say that’s because we are both more than a few years over fifty, but my son, aged almost 21, has also adopted the system. (This is the son who used to write everything on his hand in marker. “Let me just add that to my Palm ” he used to say.)
The trouble with index cards though, is that they don’t fit easily in your pocket or wallet. A PocketMod will. I ran across PocketMod through this wiki of tools for teachers.
I debated for a while whether I should admit to the fact that I had a lot of trouble with the PocketMod at first. I did! That’s because at first I was trying to drag the mods from the list on the left directly to the page view on the right. It was not immediately obvious that one has to click on the mod in the list, have it appear in the middle and then drag that to the page outline. I got pretty frustrated! This was a great reminder that not everything is obvious if you’ve never done it and that computer users who have trouble with what one might think are simple tasks should never, ever be treated with contempt.
You really need to watch the video to get how to fold it, besides it’s a hoot.
